One of the most gorgeous areas to explore in our beautiful corner of France is the Esterel, a mountain range of volcanic origin. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of visiting various parts of the Esterel; the oldest hike documented on this site was published in February of 2007. Nowhere in the Esterel have we been more often than on the Pic du Cap Roux, and with good reason: despite a relatively easy and short climb, taking only around an hour from the parking lot to the summit (assuming a leisurely pace with occasional photo breaks), the Pic du Cap Roux, with its elevation of 453 meters (1,486 feet) only the sixth-tallest peak in the Esterel, undeniably boasts the most spectacular view of the Mediterranean shore. From the top, visitors are greeted with a sweeping panorama that stretches as far as the eye can see, truly laying the entire coastline at their feet.

This page is an update of an earlier one originally published in January of 2008. The new version contains more photos, taken during three different excursions. The thumbnail size has been increased from 210x140 to 390x260 pixels (displayed in Retina resolution), and clicking on a thumbnail now shows a larger image than the former 1,200x800 pixels.
