São Jorge Castle seen from the Praça Martim Moniz |

Whereas the weather had been sunny up to now, on Friday, December 8, we awoke to gray skies and a slight drizzle. This didn't stop us from making the climb to São Jorge Castle and, on the way up (and down!), exploring the wonderful Alfama district.
The following morning, sun and blue skies were back. We set out early to finally have a chance to take the famous number 28 streetcar; our previous attempts had failed because this line is extremely popular with tourists, and the crowds at the streetcar stops had been prohibitive. At eight o'clock in the morning, however, we were the only riders for a while. Later that morning, we continued exploring the area close to our apartment; we were being picked up at noon for our ride to the airport and flight back home, so we didn't want to stray too far from our temporary home.
We enjoyed Lisbon very much. It's a fascinating history-laden city, and the Portuguese are warm and welcoming. We would love to spend more time in Portugal and see other parts of the country. Perhaps some day...
