We sat down for lunch near Schwedenplatz and waited for our mini-cruise on the Donaukanal and the Danube to begin. At 2 p.m. we were able to board our ship, and since we were the first to board, we were able to
pick choice seats: a little table for two at the rear of the ship, some of the very few outside seats. Exploring Vienna and its surroundings by ship is not as impressive as exploring other cities, such as
Budapest, since the Viennese didn't build much near the water because of frequent floods. Nevertheless, this two-hour outing on the water
was delightful, especially given the wonderful weather.

That evening, we had dinner at Skopik & Lohn. For all the people who love Wiener Schnitzel, this is the place to get
it. Believe me, this is easily one of my favorite dishes. I've eaten it in countless places, and I never had a better one than here. And while I am at it: their desserts are outstanding as well.
The next day, we went exploring the gardens and palaces in the vicinity of our hotel: The Burggarten, the Hofburg, the Volksgarten, the
Austrian Parliament Building, and so on. Naturally, we had to go to a traditional Viennese Kaffee Haus; our choice fell on Imperial and Royal Court Confectioner Demel, established in 1786. Here's a snapshot
of our order. We did not have tickets to a performance of the Spanish Riding School, but we did see
a couple of Lipizzaner horses.

Leaving the Burggarten the way we came in |
On Sunday, May 10, before heading to the airport to take our flight back to Nice, we attended a Mother's Day concert in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde auditorium. The performers were the Vienna Boys' Choir, the Vienna Girls' Choir, and older singers from either group. As is usually the case at such events, recording of any part of the performance was strictly prohibited, but many people used their phones to snap pictures at the end of each number, during the applause, or when the performers were taking a bow. This was a great concert that we enjoyed very much.
