On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, we had an appointment with the Swiss Consulate in Marseille for the purpose of renewing our passports (now that they're biometric, this has to be done in person). We took the train in the morning, arriving in Marseille just after 10 o'clock in the morning. We descended the famous steps leading form the Saint-Charles railway station into town and started exploring. We hadn't been to Marseille, the third-largest city in France, in a number of years and we were impressed with how the area around the old harbor had been developed. In 2013, Marseille was European Capital of Culture and the city invested some 600 million Euros in its cultural infrastructure for the occasion.
Our appointment was in the early afternoon, and this gave us plenty of time to walk around the harbor area, enjoy a tasty lunch, and walk around some more after our passport applications had been duly submitted. All the photos on this page were taken with our Fujifilm X100S camera, a perfect choice when one wants to travel light.
