Following our sightseeing in Seattle and San Juan Island, we picked up a rental car on April 16, 2019, and drove across the Canadian Border to Vancouver. Eric had been there before, but for Vicki and me, it was only our second time in Canada after our trip to Montreal last September. We got to our downtown hotel in the early afternoon; the skies were gray and there was a slight drizzle. That seems to be pretty standard for the area.
The camera stayed in the hotel room while we went out to get a bite to eat and explore the downtown area. I particularly enjoyed the steam clock, something I hadn't even known existed. Eric appears to have friends everywhere we go, so in the evening, his highschool buddy Andrew met us at our hotel and we were treated to a wonderful Chinese dinner at Andrew's father's place. That evening, we were also given valuable pointers on what to do and see the following day, our only full day in Vancouver.
After revisiting downtown Vancouver (this time with the camera), we followed Andrew's first suggestion and walked around False Creek all the way to Granville Island where we had lunch at the Public Market. From there, we took an Aquabus back and rested for a few minutes at out hotel before driving to Stanley Park, Andrew's second suggestion. We explored the area around Prospect Point and marveled at the seemingly endless parade of seaplanes. Andrew met us later and showed us around different areas.
We drove back to Seattle the next day, stopping at the Boeing factory in Everett on the way. We took a very interesting guided tour, but as absolutely no photography was allowed (we even had to check in our iPhones!), I can't include any pictures. Let's just sat that if you see two Boeing 747s being built and they look small, the assembly hall must be enormous! Indeed, it is the largest building in the world by volume. The following day, we flew back to North Carolina while Eric returned to Hawaii.
