This is the first page covering our 2023 trip to Scotland. Click here for page 2.
On July 12, 2023, we flew from Nice to Edinburgh, took a street car into town, and checked into our hotel, Princes Street Suites on Waterloo Place where we stayed for the duration of our trip. This was very convenient because the starting point of all three hop-on, hop-off buses was right outside our front door. On one day, we took a Rabbie's Tour (more on that next month), but other than that, we limited our sightseeing to Edinburgh, a fantastic city with a myriad of interesting things to explore.
A word about the weather: when we left France, it was uncomfortably hot in Cannes. In Edinburgh, it was a delightful 16℃ (61℉). Each day, we had a bit of sunshine, a few drops of rain, alternating gray and blue skies, and a certain amount of wind, none of which had any meaningful effect on the temperature. The old saying that in Scotland, you get every type of weather every single day sounds about right, and I was delighted with that (an early draft of this page said "we‘ instead of "I", but I have since learned that my preference for cool weather wasn't shared to the extent I had thought).
In this first part of documenting our Scotland trip, we will essentially stick to what lies in the proximity of the green and red bus routes; a second installment will cover things along the blue bus route, our Rabbie's Tour, and a few other places not dealt with on this page. Enjoy this virtual tour!
