The Mediterranean at Bordighera |
On Sunday, March 10, 2013, we drove across the Italian border to Bordighera with Eric who was in France during spring break. At his request, we eschewed the highway and drove along the coast, passing Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Monaco, Menton, and Ventimiglia. The drive took quite a bit of time but the scenery made it well worth it. Unfortunately, throughout the week Eric was with us, the weather was not the greatest; it rained a great deal, and when it didn't, the skies looked dark enough to make one believe that the reprieve was only temporary. Of course, this did not lessen the pleasure of doing things en famille, though it did have an impact on my photographic output. Full disclosure: most of the images shown on this page were, in fact, taken on a Sunday almost exactly one year earlier, on February 19, 2012. On that day, Vicki and I had visited Bordighera for the first time.

Menacing skies: time to head back home |
Before driving home, we made a stop at a café in the heart of town were a year earlier we had not only discovered a fabulous cappuccino of the kind only Italians know how to make, but also what have got to be the best Cannoli we had ever tasted. Naturally, we just had to go back there to see if the experience of that first trip had been some kind of fluke. I'm happy to report that our little snack was every bit as good as we had remembered it—and about half the price it would have cost across the French border. We'll be back!
