For our trip to Prague, we had booked a double room in the Metamorphis Excellent hotel in the old town. Imagine our surprise when we found out that for reasons that were never explained to us (and we didn't ask for fear that it would all turn out to be a mistake), we had been upgraded to a fantastic suite! In addition to a spacious foyer with tons of storage, we had a very large living room (complete with a surround-sound entertainment system), a generously sized bedroom (the bed would comfortably have slept half a dozen people), and a superb bathroom (featuring a Jacuzzi and a huge shower stall that would have easily allowed the aforementioned half a dozen people to shower together). Add to that the fabulous location and a wonderful and complimentary all-you-can eat breakfast buffet, and it's not hard to understand why we were thrilled with our accommodations!
The hotel is located in a building that was constructed in the first half of the 14th century (you have to see the thickness of the walls to believe it) and it is situated in a courtyard that is on the UNESCO world cultural heritage list. The whole building was completely restored in 2008; thankfully, all the desirable attributes of the original structure, such as the very tall vaulted ceilings, have been preserved. We can definitely recommend this establishment; even without the upgrade, the prime location and the wonderful historical building make this an easy choice.
