Having taken the delightfully empty early boat from Cannes to Saint-Honorat (an 8 a.m. departure), we strolled around the island, enjoying the almost total absence of fellow tourists and admiring the beautiful scenery around us. By a quarter past nine, we were ambling through the abbey gardens when this “Access reserved to monks” sign caught Vicki’s eye.
