Mulhouse
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
At 9:21 this morning, we were admiring the cobble-stoned Place de la Réunion, the center of the old town of Mulhouse. In addition to the beautifully restored (mostly 15th century) houses, there are many gorgeous shops, like the crémerie in the third house from the left. The name of this house is Butterblume (buttercup), so the dairy store is appropriately named Au Bouton d’Or. Also on this square are the Protestant Temple Saint-Etienne and the old Town Hall that was built in 1553 and now houses the city’s Historical Museum. Even though we had enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, we couldn’t ignore the chocothèque and indulged in a couple of treats and a cappuccino under the umbrellas before our second visit to my aunt Marie and an early afternoon flight home to Nice.
