Halloween

How could I resist this sailboat, registered in Cork, Ireland, to boot? When I spotted the Hallowe’en a few days ago in the harbor of Cannes, I just had to photograph it and save the image for today’s blog entry. It is unlikely that I will find anything more typical; for instance, there’s virtually no hope of seeing a Jack-o'-lantern around here, and there won’t be any groups of kids trick-or-treating, either. As I mentioned in a previous entry, Halloween festivities have pretty much disappeared in France, and at least some of the “credit” goes to the Catholic Church which continues its efforts as this article shows. Does the Vatican know Christmas is originally a pagan festival? Honestly, I have nothing against gods, but the world would truly be a better place without their ground crew...
